![]() Project WaterBug, spreading the hype one bite at a time. Beware of TheWaterBug!Agents from TheWaterStop.org are sneaking around the woods at Orienteering meets across the country spreading the bite of the Waterbug. The bite is non-fatal, but is known to cause discomfort in many victims. The long-term effects can include, but are not limited to, a heightened sense of vanity (victims are known to spend countless hours looking at photos of themselves in online photo galleries), a mild addiction to Orienteering related gossip, and an overall heightened interest in all things Orienteering. The bite is most potent in people under the age of 20, but is also known to affect some people just outside that age range. Victims are encouraged to contact TheWaterStop.org as soon as possible after being bitten. Waterbug ActivityTo see where the WaterBug has been recently, take a look at the Waterbug Activity page of our News section. GoalsThe main goal of Project WaterBug is to spread the word about TheWaterStop.org to as many Juniors as possible. However, the project ties in with the overall goal of TheWaterStop.org which is to create and maintain a large community of Juniors from across the country. By spreading the word to Juniors from across the continent that there is a place where they can congregate, meet other Juniors, and stay in touch with their friends, Project WaterBug will create a more unified Junior community that should help to keep Juniors excited about Orienteering even after they don't want to do anything with their parents. Orienteering is a sport for all ages, and the larger goal of Project WaterBug is simply to make Orienteering more attractive to the youth of America. AgentsArmed with a camera and a stack of "bitten" cards, agents travel to A-Meets and other high-profile Orienteering events to take pictures of Junior Orienteers. When they capture the photo of any Junior who is not already involved on TheWaterStop.org, the agent hands the Junior a "bitten" card which reads "You have been bitten by TheWaterBug! Visit TheWaterStop.org to see your photo." The agent then returns home and uploads pictures from the event to the photo gallery at TheWaterStop.org.
