Junior Concession Stand at US Champs

This coming weekend at the US Champs we will have a chance to raise some money for the junior team fund. There are about 550 participants expected and the saturday event is not near any kind of amendities so we have a great chance to earn a couple hundred dollars by selling lunch. We will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage sandwiches, soda, gatorade, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, chips and a few other munchies. We will be selling from 10:30ish to about 2:30 - 3PM on saturday only. We will be located near the down load building so that will help us with sales for sure. Now all I need is your help. This is for your fund not mine. People want to buy from the juniors not from Janet Porter and the other junior parents that will be helping. So please make sure that you find the concession stand and volunteer your time to help raise money for our junior team fund. If you think you will need any kind of financial aid in the coming year to attend a training camp or A event or that you want to go with the group overseas next summer then I expect to see you on saturday because without fundraising we won't have any money to help with any kind of junior activities next year.

See you saturday. We always have great fun while raising money come see for yourself.

International Junior Trip summer 2008

We are in the very beginning stages of planning a summer 2008 Junior trip to Europe. I, the USA Junior Team Leader, will be the organizer of the trip and will handle the arrangements for the trip. I plan to have a number of Key former Juniors, including former JWOC team members travel with me to help with the coaching and supervision of the group as well as any other adults that are interested in going along as well to help.

There are 5 weeks straight of events that we could go to if we so desired. They are:

Spectator races at JWOC June 29 - July 6 in Sweden
Spectator races at WOC July 12 - July 20 in Czech Republic
O-Ringen July 21 - July 25 in Sweden
Spectator Races at WUOC July 29 - Aug 3 in Estonia

You will notice there is a week in between JWOC and WOC which can be used for sight seeing or going to the Fin 5 I believe.

Now we need to see where every one wants to go. Post you comments in the forum so that we can see what you want to do.

Announcing the Northwest Forest Frenzy!

The first ever junior-hosted A-Meet is in the works! Meet directed by Kelsey Breseman, of Cascade Orienteering Club, the Northwest Forest Frenzy is tentatively scheduled for August 2008 (pending USOF approval). Originally the idea of Matej Urban (COC), there are now over fifteen juniors from three orienteering clubs working on the project with adult mentors.

The terrain is set for the eastern Cascade Mountains of Washington state, just outside the town of Cle Elum and about 100 miles east of Seattle. It is a beautiful area, with a mixture of open pine forests and meadows, and deer are frequently seen.

If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, email northwestforestfrenzy@gmail.com. More details can be found online at northwestforestfrenzy....pages.com/.

See you in 2008!

2007 Junior Quilt Raffle

Last year we made a couple hundred dollars for the Junior Team fund with this drawing and we're doing it again. But we want to get lots more ticket sales.

This time we are offering Travel Grants to the Junior who sells the most tickets and to whoever sells the winning ticket. If you'd like to help out by selling some raffle tickets see the Quilt Raffle page at my website. It has all the details. If everybody sells tickets at their local meets, this could raise a lot of money for USOF Juniors.

Edmonton OC Looking to Hire Junior Coach

From www.orienteer.ab.ca/Sc...tunity.htm:

	Quote:

Edmonton Overlanders Orienteering Club is looking for a keen and suitably qualified orienteer to deliver a school orienteering program and to develop and deliver a club junior program. The work will include some schoolyard map making and some updating of existing city park maps. It will also include organizing some inter-school events and may include helping to organize some other club orienteering competitions or training.

We have approximately $3000 per month available for the next two years. We estimate that delivering the schools program, which is currently on-going, will take about 40% of the time, the club junior program will take about 20% of the time, the mapping including schoolyard mapping will account for 25% of the time and other activities will provide the remaining 15% of the job.

It's great to see a club putting that much into developing a Junior program. I can't wait to see what comes out of this.

From Catching Features to JWOC 2007

Here is a link that anyone looking to do real preparation for JWOC 2007 should read: news.worldofo.com/2006...res-video/

The video is not too easy to see, nor informative, but the idea of training on CF maps of JWOC terrain is an idea I have looked at for several years, and it's finally a reality, as easy OCAD to CK map converters are avaialble. Read the article and then get CF and get online (or not) to run on some JWOC maps.

Can we put together some competitions?
